Anti wrinkle injections

Prices
Anti wrinkle injections commonly known as Botox (named after one brand of product that can be used for this procedure) work by causing the facial muscles to relax, smoothening the appearance of wrinkles that occur naturally with age and help prevent further ageing of the skin.  Anti-wrinkle treatments are available at clinics based in both Newcastle and Sunderland.   Like all procedures a pre-treatment consultation is mandatory to assess suitability for treatment.

How does it work?

Through normal facial expression the muscles of the face contract. Over the years this can create lines and wrinkles in the face that can become permanent, this process can be further accelerated by other factors including stress, sun exposure, smoking, alcohol intake and hormonal influences. During facial expression a message is sent via nerves from the brain to the muscles instructing them to contract. Anti-wrinkle injections can block this message meaning the muscles are unable to crease the skin. This treatment is available in 1-3 areas and is commonly used to smoothen out lines on the forehead, frown lines and lines around the eyes (crows feet).

What does the treatment involve?

Anti-wrinkle injections are carried out using a fine needle targeting specific muscles with minimal discomfort. They do not require any anaesthesia (numbing) and you can carry on your normal activities afterwards. The treatment itself takes a matter of minutes following which the results take 7-14 days to take effect.

How long will treatment last?

Anti-wrinkles injections typical last 3-6 months. As the effects wear off muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles reappear and require re-treatment. However with time the lines and wrinkles appear less severe.

What are the potential side effects?

Following treatment you will be provided with verbal and written aftercare instructions to minimise your risk of side effects. Temporary bruising is common side effect. Less commonly reported are headaches that last 24-48hours after treatment. A small portion of patients have reported eyelid drooping after anti-wrinkle injections. This can be caused by the injection moving and after treatment; rubbing the area for 24 hours after treatment is discouraged.

Will my face be frozen?

The 'Frozen' look is typically associated with use of too much anti-wrinkle injection in one area. Every course of treatment is custom tailored to the individual. During the free pre-treatment consultation Dr. Elle  or Dr. Sasha can discuss with you the areas requiring treatment to achieve your desired look meaning small specific muscles can be targeted ensuring normal expressions such a frowning, smiling and looking surprised will be unaffected.
